Video: Journey

without comments

From thatgamecompany, the makers of flOw and flOwer, comes Journey. Another absolutely beautiful looking game, that appears to be a bit meatier on the gameplay side of things. I guess it will even have multiplayer modes, which let you journey with friends.

Mass Effect 3 plot teaser? [UPDATED]

with one comment

I can’t say that I am terribly interested in the Mass Effect series. I’ve never gotten around to playing it myself, though pretty much everyone around me has and they love it. I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually, as well as my millions of other games I haven’t touched yet.

This was spotted on the EA store this morning:

Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth.

As I said, I’m not really into Mass Effect (a fact of which Aaron pretty much disapproves), but for someone who knows only small pieces of the storyline, this sounds pretty interesting to me. Perhaps I’ll finally get into the series, after I see more stuff about the third chapter. Rumors have said that BioWare will be showing off Mass Effect 3 at the 2010 Video Game Awards on Spike TV.

[UPDATE: Looks like the description has already been taken down by EA, for some reason.]

News: Tomb Raider Update

without comments

Several juicy bits have been revealed about the upcoming Tomb Raider game, simply titled “Tomb Raider.” As was stated in the previous post, it is an origin story, but it has now been confirmed that it will indeed be a reboot of the entire franchise. It will come in the form of an open world survival game, and it appears to be much grittier than anything we’ve seen from the series before. Even with Crystal Dynamic’s admirable entries into the series, I don’t think that anyone can argue against the franchise’s stagnation. With a fresh start entirely under C.D., hopefully this bodes well for Lara.

Video: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Teaser

without comments

Announced in Entertainment Weekly, of all places, Uncharted 3 is heading to the PS3 sometime next year. News I think just about anyone with a brain could guess. The game will feature 3D capabilities; a feature that Sony appears adamant on implementing in all of its AAA titles. For one reason or another the game will first be demoed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon December 13th, which I will not be watching until it is posted seconds later on the internet.

Entertainment Weekly? Jimmy Fallon? Double U, Tea, Efffffffffffff?

Some promo pics in the full post.

The Great Steam Treasure Hunt

without comments

Steam has started a new achievement styled contest today, which awards completed tasks, some of which are in-game, with entries in the contest. There will be four tasks to complete every two days until December 19th. Twenty of the people who enter will be chosen and receive five items from their wish list for each of these intervals. At the end, any member who completes at least ten of the tasks laid out, and makes sure to log onto Steam on December 20th, has a chance to win one hundred games of his or her choosing. You can also win hats for Team Fortress 2 by complete five, ten, or fifteen of the objectives. If the first round is telling of the others, it seems that one of the objectives will be able to be completed by anyone, while the others will require actions in purchased games. All of the games required for the first round are currently discounted (a trend I’m sure will continue throughout the contest) like the Lumines-styled game Chime at an affordable $1.25.
