Article: OmniPlayer

I read an article a few years ago with some industry expert saying that single player and multiplayer games would be a thing of the past. For a game to succeed, he said, games would need to offer both competently and in the same package. While that has certainly been the attempt for the past few years, I really wish it was not.

I recently got to play the Bulletstorm demo on Xbox LIVE, and while I feel I may be TOO excited for a game like this… well, I’m pretty excited.

Welllll, 50% off of $x.99 is actually $(x – (x+1)/2 )+ 0.995, which should round up to $(x+1)/2… but I digress.

Best of 2010, though? You decide.

Deals: Humble Indie Update

without comments

Humble Indie Bundle #2 now includes the games from HIB #1 with a minor stipulation. If you already purchased the second bundle just head over to the site and download the rest. If you haven’t, you need to buy the second bundle at higher than the meager $7.60 average donation to qualify for the games from the first bundle. They also have a limited number of Steam codes for the first bundle, so act fast if you want one of those!

Deal: Games for Windows Live Sale 12/20 – 12/27

with one comment

Unlike the Steam sale, it looks like GfWL is just putting up eight games for this set period of time. Some pretty good deals though, if you were looking to get some of these.

  • Dead Rising 2 – $19.99
  • Resident Evil 5 – $14.99
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. – $4.99
  • Fear 2 – $9.99
  • A Vampyre Story – $9.99
  • Plants vs. Zombies – $7.49

I’m glad Microsoft is at least trying to compete with Steam, but the service has a long way to go. Still, don’t let that stop you from making use of their desperate deals.

News: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Delayed

without comments

Originally planned for March, Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been pushed back until at least April. Sounds like it is a result of the recent critical reception of some Square Enix titles. I’m all for companies realizing that good reviews do indeed equal strong brands and sales in the long run, if not in the short.

Also, there are just too many games released these days that delays are becoming welcome news to me. My stack of unplayed games is haunting my dreams.

Deal: The Humble Indie Bundle #2 [UPDATED]

with 3 comments

I don’t know what my problem is for not mentioning this sooner. There is another Humble Indie Bundle up. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a batch of indie games that you can name your price for. You can choose how much of the proceeds go to charity and how much to the developers.

So listen. You can pay whatever you want, and this pack of games would total eighty-five dollars under normal circumstances. DO NOT PIRATE THEM LIKE SOME ASSHOLES DID LAST TIME. Sheesh. These are indie guys, they don’t even put DRM protection on the games they release for your benefit. There is absolutely no moral ground for that shit. You would just be a damn inconsiderate thief, and a waste of life.

End of rant. Now go help some charities.

EDIT: You can now get codes to redeem the games on Steam and Desura. Cortex Command and Revenge of the Titans have yet to release on Steam, but they are saying that they should queue up upon their Steam debuts.

News: Elder Scrolls V Using New In-House Engine

without comments

Headline says it all, really. Although it was rumored that Bethesda might use the Tech 5 engine from id, that has proven false. Thank whoever it is that you thank though that they are not continuing to use the atrocious Gamebyro engine, which will hopefully suffer horribly where ever it is you believe machinations of pure contempt suffer.

News: PS3 Mass Effect Fans Rejoice

with one comment

Not only will there be a Mass Effect 2 demo released next week on the Playstation Network, but Mass Effect 3 will be simultaneously released on the 360, PS3, and PC. I suppose that officially makes it a ‘real’ multiplatform series. Huzzah?
